The Indie Author Experiment · Day 2
RELEASE THE KRAKEN.
Today I discovered batching, remembered cameras exist, scheduled enough content to impersonate a functioning adult, and accepted that this experiment apparently requires several additional limbs.
So today, my dear Rebels…
Can I call you Rebels?
Rebels is what I call the people who listen to Imperfect Rebel, and apparently I have decided I need names for everybody now.
You let me know in the comments or by email because, judging by my inbox, you guys LOVE sending me emails.
And I genuinely love reading them.
So, Rebels?
Yes? No?
We will conduct this extremely scientific research together.
Anyway. Today I spent basically the entire day writing reviews and preparing posts.
Did I post everything?
NOOOOO.
Today I was smart.
I scheduled everything.
Which means that over the next few days you Rebels will finally see me being suspiciously active on social media while, in reality, I may be sitting somewhere reading a book in my pyjamas.
And I think I discovered something important today.
The only way I am going to survive social media is to batch the bloody content.
The only way I am going to manage social media while keeping writing first, and still having enough time to read, review books, record the podcast and occasionally behave like a human being, is to have one day every week where I batch the content.
One day.
Write the posts.
Prepare the graphics.
Schedule everything.
Then during the rest of the week I can just turn the camera on whenever something stupid, interesting or mildly catastrophic happens and talk about it.
Simple.
Brilliant.
Revolutionary.
Did I do that today?
NOPE.
Why?
Because I freaking forgot.
Only now, when the day is basically finished, did I remember:
I can literally turn on the camera and speak.
That is content.
I can show what I am doing.
That is content.
I can complain about Canva.
CONTENT.
I can show you the 47 tabs currently destroying my computer.
CONTENT.
Not everything has to be polished, right?
Actually, considering the name Imperfect Rebel, perhaps polishing everything to death would be slightly missing the point.
So from tomorrow I am going to try something.
Open camera.
Yap.
Post.
Do not spend forty-five minutes wondering whether the lighting is flattering enough to communicate my profound thoughts about book metadata.
Just release it into the world.
I also ordered paperback copies of my own book so I can finally make videos actually HOLDING THE BOOK.
YAY!!!
I am behaving as if I personally discovered both the wheel and fire at the same fucking time.
Will I ever transform myself into one of those women who casually turns on a camera and speaks to the internet without overthinking it?
We will see.
You are Lupe Farkas. You are the Imperfect Rebel. Your content does not have to be perfect. Just make it and release it into the world.
So yeah.
Release the Kraken.
Today’s extremely scientific numbers
Because if I am going to call this an experiment, apparently I need to provide evidence before the ocean files a complaint.
The Kraken
That is me. Apparently being an author, reviewer, podcast host, website editor, content creator and professional yapper requires approximately eight arms, so this feels medically accurate.
So…
Productive?
Yes.
Normal?
Absolutely not.
Also, in case you were wondering, yesterday evening I cooked again.
Asian noodles with vegetables, soy sauce and chicken.
And no, Koji from Ramen, Existential Crises was not standing beside me keeping time, so I completely forgot that the noodles were supposed to cook for 85 seconds.
They were overcooked.
The taste? Good.
The appearance?
Well.
The appearance…
We do not need to discuss everything.
Some things should remain between a woman, her kitchen and God.
Regarding the actual experiment numbers, not much changed today.
Except apparently Pinterest has forgiven me, because the views started going up again.
My website views also went up.
Book sales?
Book sales remain dramatically committed to doing absolutely fuck all.
So if you are reading this and thinking, “Maybe I should read Lupe’s book…”
YES.
Excellent instinct.
Please follow it.
The book is cheap.
And if you have Kindle Unlimited, technically you already paid for access to it, so please go read the bloody thing because I would very much like someone to notice that I wrote a book.
Thank you for your cooperation with this extremely sophisticated publishing strategy.
Chaotic. Unhinged. Unpolished. Completely imperfect.
Thank you, Rebels, for reading while I try to figure out what the hell I am doing.
Go follow me everywhere because apparently we are bros now.
And before you disappear, go check out the latest reviews because today I wrote enough of them to qualify for some kind of literary workers’ compensation.
Have a good one.
Take whatever vibe you need today.
