About the book
Ninety days to discover whether another life is possible.
At forty, Elisabetta Rossi has done everything correctly. She built a successful career as a lawyer in Milan, lived by duty and discipline, and became exceptionally good at meeting expectations. None of it taught her how to want to stay.
She makes herself a private promise: ninety days to experience the things she never tried, ask the questions she avoided, and live without postponing everything that might make her feel alive. She leaves Milan, rents a house in a small Tuscan village and begins documenting the experiment in her diary.
But Italy gives her more than a beautiful place to disappear. New friendships, unexpected forms of love, old wounds and the lives unfolding around her begin to interfere with the ending she believed she had already chosen.
Before October Ends is a character-driven psychological novel about starting over at forty, the performance of happiness, belonging, mortality and the unsettling possibility that changing everything may still not be enough to change yourself.
