Day 42: Wait… People Are Actually Reading My Books?!
Dear Rebels,
Today we’re catching up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Of course, today is Day 42, but the numbers for Day 42 will only be available tomorrow, on Day 43. Yes, it’s weird, but apparently, that’s how this works.
Now, why didn’t I post over the weekend?
Well, Saturday I was in Vienna, and Sunday I was busy writing book reviews and The Chosen. Yes, Rebels, my wonderfully strict, beautifully organised routine fell apart.
Because I was tired.
Yes. Tired. That’s the whole explanation. Apparently, even my carefully organised chaos has its limits.
But I’m back! And at least I’ve returned with some good news and rather interesting numbers.
So today, I’ll write less and show you more numbers.
I know. Me, writing less. Let’s see how that goes.
First, the website!
| Day | Views | Visitors |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, October 9 | 112 | 30 |
| Saturday, October 10 | 89 | 28 |
| Sunday, October 11 | 73 | 37 |
| Total | 274 | 95 |
The visitor total adds the three daily figures. Someone visiting on multiple days may be counted more than once.
Interesting, isn’t it? On Sunday, the views went down, but the number of visitors went up. Apparently, more people found their way into my little corner of the internet.
Meanwhile, on Instagram…
The last time we checked, I had 176. That’s 67 additional followers, an increase of 38.1%.
And over the last 30 days:
Well, hello there, people!
And then there’s The Chosen…
This one makes me particularly happy. I started publishing The Chosen on September 21, and people are following along as the story unfolds.
Maria, Ksenia, Zita and the others seem to be keeping someone entertained.
Excellent. I shall continue making their lives complicated.
Before October Ends
Actual reading activity. My book. Someone’s Kindle.
I may need another Coke Zero.
On Goodreads, my books have also received 19 ratings and 11 written reviews, with an average rating of 4.11 stars.
Google sent me a congratulations card!
Yes, Rebels. Google and I have reached a new stage in our relationship.
On October 8, Google congratulated my website for reaching 100 clicks from Google Search in 28 days.
Apparently, Google thinks this deserves a celebration.
And you know what? So do I.
One hundred search clicks. People finding my little website while searching for books, authors, reviews and stories.
Whether they stayed, read something, or immediately regretted their decision is another question entirely.
But Google seems pleased with me, and frankly, I’ll take the compliment.
And Facebook?
My author page recorded 1,042 views and 144 engagements over 28 days.
Some rather encouraging movement there, too.
So, what now?
Are these the numbers I’m dreaming of? Of course not. I’ve got much bigger ambitions.
But they’re moving. People are discovering the website, finding my reviews, following The Chosen and reading Before October Ends.
And after all those days wondering whether anybody out there was paying attention, that’s a pretty lovely thing to see.
We’ve still got an enormous amount of work ahead of us. Fortunately, I’m quite good at creating more work for myself.
Speaking of which, today I’ll be answering emails about ARC requests and posting more book reviews. Apparently, my little trip to Vienna and a weekend of exhaustion were enough of a holiday.
Back to the books, the emails, the manuscripts and the chaos!
