Social Media Doesn’t Like Human Self-Care!
Friday, 9 October 2026 · An indie author’s marketing experiment, three hours in the bathtub, five dogs, one Coke Zero and absolutely no regrets.
Rebels, I know, I know, I was supposed to make/write another post yesterday! I didn’t! Why?
Because I worked from 7 AM to 4 PM, and then I went to take a bath… That bath lasted 3 hours… Or 3 hot waters, as I like to call it.
I needed some time to relax, decompress and think. Did I do that? No! I was reading the new Freida McFadden book.
Wow, Lupe, so productive. Yep! Yesterday, productive Lupe gave space to leave-me-alone Lupe!
Then at night I thought, oh, I need to make the post, tell my rebels the good news. Did I do it? No! I continued reading the ARCs I need to review!
Very Rebel, very imperfect. I am Imperfect Rebel!
Now, the good news and new things that happened! Well, yesterday I received a new translation of BOE! Soon you’ll see the cover and what language it is!
Before October Ends has another translation!
The language and cover are still a surprise. More news coming soon, rebels!
Today’s Numbers
Apparently, social media doesn’t like human self-care. Let’s see what happened while I was busy being a human being.
01. Instagram
30 days / 7 days| 30 days | 7 days | |
|---|---|---|
| Views | 10,775 | 3,725 |
| Interactions | 1,512 | 774 |
| Net followers | +34 | +12 |
| Viewers | 948 | 362 |
| Views from non-followers | 28.6% | 18.7% |
Well, rebels, Instagram is having a complicated relationship with me. Over the last seven days we generated 3,725 views and 774 interactions. That’s around 35% of the month’s views and 51% of its interactions.
But here’s the interesting part. The percentage of views coming from people who don’t follow me is lower in the seven-day report than in the 30-day report. So the people who already know me are interacting, while discovery appears more limited recently.
Also, 381 of the month’s 437 reel views happened during the last seven days. Apparently the reels are still alive!
02. WordPress
Completed days · 7–8 October| Date | Views | Visitors | Likes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 October | 113 | 35 | 1 |
| 8 October | 63 | 26 | 3 |
Ah, WordPress. My dear little website has apparently decided to join the drama. We went from 113 views on Wednesday to 63 on Thursday. That’s a drop of 44.2% in one day.
But likes increased from one to three. Smaller traffic, more likes. Interesting!
03. Facebook
Last 28 daysLupe Farkas
1,401
Views: down 8%
Engagements: 19, down 68%
Follows: 6, up 200%
Lupe Farkas Author
1,020
Views: up 750%
Engagements: 140, up 567%
Follows: 4, up 33%
Now this is interesting! One Facebook page is slowing down while the author page is growing. A 750% increase in views and 567% in engagements!
Of course, percentages look especially dramatic when you’re starting with smaller numbers. Still, this little author page is getting attention. We’ll keep watching it.
04. LinkedIn
Last 7 daysLinkedIn impressions are down 35%. Another red number. Lovely! But wait… 91% of those impressions came from people outside my network.
That means the platform is still putting my content in front of people who don’t already know me. And since this experiment is about discovery, that’s something worth paying attention to.
05. Tumblr
CommunityMeanwhile, my Tumblr has 23 followers. Small, yes, but there are actual humans on the other side of that number, and that’s what matters.
06. Imperfect Rebel Podcast
Spotify & other platformsOur little Imperfect Rebel podcast has passed 1,000 all-time plays and downloads! We now have 26 Spotify followers and almost 28 and a half hours of listening time over the last 30 days.
The last seven days were slower, with 18 plays and downloads, down 45.5%. Our latest episode with Sean Robins has three plays so far, with a reported 100% completion rate. Three is a tiny sample, of course, but it’s lovely to see people listening all the way through!
So, what’s the plan, Lupe?
Does all this mean that today I’m gonna make up for it by posting a million things and praying to the social media gods to forgive me? NO! I have reviews to write and THE CHOSEN to write.
Does it mean tomorrow I’ll be catching up? NO! Tomorrow I’ll be in Vienna… Will I regret everything and post like a crazy little Imperfect Rebel on Sunday? NO! On Sunday I’ll be writing and reading in bed all day…
So, Lupe, what are you gonna do to improve the numbers?
Well, my friend Lacunae and I have decided to find a social media black magick course…
