The Indie Author Experiment • First 7-Day Checkpoint

Big Numbersss

Tiny author. Big feelings. The first seven-day sprint is over, the strangers have started arriving, and somehow the rebel is still running.

01
Pre-Race Disclaimer

Before anyone calls these numbers microscopic…

Rebels… just kidding.

Many of you guys might look at these numbers and say:

“Bitch, WTF are you talking about? These numbers are microscopic.”

I know. 😭

But for me, rebels, they are gigantic.

You need to know that in the first days of September, we already surpassed the numbers for the whole month of August.

So for me, this is huge. And you cannot imagine how grateful I am for this.

All of you reading me right now are contributing to these numbers that, for me, are enormous.

Thank you. 🌻 A little sunflower to each and every one of you.

Seriously. Thank you for reading the chaos, clicking the posts, coming back, listening to me ramble and watching this microscopic indie author publicly attempt to understand how the internet works.

Sooooo…

You can probably see that today’s post is coming very late. Apologies for that.

As many of you know, I am also a technical ghostwriter. Yes. That is the job that pays for the Coke Zero.

And today, rebels, this rebel worked hard and fast, with a deadline so close I could practically feel it breathing on my neck.

It was not pleasant.

At all.

I finally started working on this post at around 10 p.m. Rome time.

But hey. The important thing is that the post is here.

Alive. Slightly exhausted. Aggressively Coke-Zeroinated.

And ready to show you exactly what happened during the first seven days of this experiment.

Ready, rebels?

Here we go. 🏁

Tiny author numbers? Yep. But the important question in this experiment isn’t whether I have millions of views. It’s whether the starting line is moving. And this week, it did.
03
The Interesting Part

The strangers have arrived.

The number that interests me most isn’t actually 10,120%.

It’s these two.

67.9%

Instagram

67.9% of my Instagram views came from non-followers.

People who were not already following me saw the content.

61%

LinkedIn

61% of LinkedIn impressions came from outside my network.

Again: people outside the existing Lupe bubble.

Those are strangers, rebels. And strangers are exactly what an unknown indie author needs if she ever wants the microscopic circle to become slightly less microscopic.
04
Telemetry

Instagram

Instagram delivered 3,700 content views in seven days to 2,062 viewers.

2.9K Story Views
684 Post Views
123 Reel Views
185 Interactions
62 Profile Visits
11 Bio Link Taps

But again: the part I’m watching most closely is that 67.9% came from non-followers.

Previous 7 days

Total website views.

That’s 274 additional views, or about 126% growth from one seven-day period to the next.

On September 7 alone, the website recorded 73 views and 42 visitors.

A week ago I was trying to convince Google that I existed. Apparently Google has at least stopped pretending not to hear me.

06
Fastest Percentage of the Week

LinkedIn apparently had somewhere to be.

A
Impressions Current seven-day period
511
B
Growth Compared with previous seven days
+10,120%
C
Members reached People exposed to the posts
205
D
Outside my network The stranger number
61%

Ten thousand one hundred and twenty percent.

I would like it formally recorded that I also stared at that number for a while.

07
Radio Check

Imperfect Rebel escaped containment too.

306 Spotify Impressions
35 Plays
11.4% Conversion
58% Average Completion
186 Spotify Search
118 Spotify Home

Search and Home are doing almost all of the discovery work.

Which means people aren’t only arriving because the podcast is already sitting in their library.

And yes, one episode showed a 100% completion rate.

Somebody apparently consumed the entire Lupe.

I hope they’re okay. 😂

Day 8 Race Note

The lesson from Lap One

Visibility comes before familiarity. Familiarity comes before trust. Trust comes before somebody eventually pressing Buy.

Eight days in, I am not looking for proof that I’ve magically become a bestselling author overnight.

I’m looking for evidence that the circle is getting wider.

Today, it is.

Meanwhile, Somewhere Off Track

The KDP desert report

Now, for anyone wondering whether all this beautiful movement resulted in readers dramatically stampeding toward my books…

0 Books Sold
0 KU Reads

The desert remains committed to being a desert. 🏜️

However…

Something else happened.

I received the appreciation of the authors whose books I ARC read.

And my technical ghostwriting clients apparently also appreciated my existence, because they sent me another five books to write.

Five.

More.

Books.

So at this point, rebels, I am forced to consider the possibility that perhaps I am not destined to exist exclusively as an indie author.

Perhaps my natural form is simply:

technical ghostwriter with Wi-Fi and an alarming Coke Zero dependency.

A ghost sitting on a swing representing Lupe Farkas's thriving technical ghostwriting work while her indie author KDP dashboard remains quiet.
Exhibit 9 • Ghost in the Paddock

The ghostwriter, thriving. The indie author, still in the desert.

🏁

Lap One Complete.

Seven days of posting, observing, screenshotting, experimenting, occasionally panicking and aggressively Coke-Zeroinating ourselves.

No miracle bestseller.

No fake “I cracked the algorithm” speech.

Just measurable movement.

More people saw the work. More strangers entered the circle. More people listened. More people visited.

And all of you reading this are part of those numbers.

So thank you, rebels. 🌻 One little sunflower for every single one of you.

First seven-day checkpoint crossed.
Week Two starts now.
